Variety Motives of "Melayu Riau"

As with other regions, the Malays are also famous for its variety of motifs (various shades, yeast, ornamental, parent reference, the basic form, forms, patterns) for carving, weaving, or even just for decoration images. Malays have a wide range of basic motifs that become cultural treasures since hundreds of years and came to the kingdom of Riau-Lingga era and even now still being used and conserved. Variety melayu motif is commonly applied to wood carving, bronze carving, engraving silver, or gold engraving, as well as in other carving materials. Engraving is also applied to the woven fabric in areas such as Siak, Daik Linga, Pelalawan, Inderagiri, Bengkalis, Siantan, and other areas. Variety motof is taught from generation to generation like my father taught carving on wood, or her mother taught her daughter to weave.
Variety melayu motive is not merely an image, carved or woven into mere decoration, but has a certain meaning and philosophy became the symbol and the noble values of Malay culture. So Variety Malay motive has two functions:1. Garnish2. Dissemination of the noble values of Malay culture
Variety motif match set the proper placement according to the custom. There are for weaving, embroidery, embroidery, suji, woven, ornate buildings, even to the royal emblem. Some can be used for multipurpose anywhere. In general, a wide variety of morif It has the same name and form in different regions, but there are also different.But it all refers to the fundamental similarities that Malay culture which mengacukepada religious teachings of Islam.



Erosion of Malay kingdoms have helped diminish the variety of Malay motif itself, although not lost completely. Many craftsmen carving and weaving which reduces much of the previous. For the Riau Islands, particularly in Daik Linga, bronze crafts, fabrics, embroideries and suji has disappeared (disappeared since decades ago), except embroidery. There is now not able to easily find someone who can weave.Variety motifs have first become terbiar and finally partial extinction. So also in other places in Riau. Government and society has sought to revive the variety of Malay motifs, so that now there are already trying to learn to weave, carve, and make a decoration of the building.
